VISHNU God of fulfillment…….This particular prasad is made during the puja performed in the name of SATYANARAYAN, one of the avatars of Lord Vishnu.

Using basic five ingredients namely Rawa(semolina), Sakhar (sugar), Doodh (milk), Tup or Ghee (clarified butter), and Kela (banana), a sweet dish is prepared and offered to Lord before it is consumed by his devotees. The amount of prasad distributed is in a small quantity, say about a teaspoon full.

You must be wondering, why this particular proportion of ingredients? Well, the reason is very interesting. Prana i.e Life, and channels or Vayus of Prana are five in numbers, namely

  • Prana- controls the functioning of the Heart and Lungs.

  • Apana - controls the function of the excretory and reproductive organs.

  • Samana- responsible for balancing Prana and Apana.

  • Udana- centered and spreaded at about the throat area, responsible for activities such as belching and vomiting.

  • Vyana- centered and spreaded at about the whole body area, is responsible for all activities on the periphery like nerve impulses and cellular activity.

An equal proportion of ingredients i.e one + one/fourth of each is taken, a belief to satisfy all the channels equally.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 ¼ cup Semolina

  • 1 ¼ cup Sugar

  • 1 ¼ cup pure Ghee ( clarified butter)

  • 1 ¼ cup Milk

  • 1 ¼ cup water

  • 1/2 teaspoon Elaichi powder (cardamom powder)

  • 6-7 strands of Saffron
